Well connected to the south-west, many people choose to drive to Newquay, and for those without a car, it is possible to hire cars for a day or more, with small vehicles being fairly inexpensive.

If you are considering using Newquay's public transport extensively whilst staying here, consider purchasing a travel card for either a day or a week, which can save a considerable amount of money if you intend to sightsee. Here are Newquay's main types of public transport and travel.

Somewhat surprisingly, the seaside town of Newquay is home to Cornwall's only commercial airport, offering daily flights to Dublin, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, and London's Gatwick and Stansted airports. Planes also travel to the scenic Isles of Scilly and the main airlines include Air South West, Ryanair and Skybus. Newquay Airport lies on the town's outskirts, around 7 km / 4 miles from the town centre.

A car is one of the best ways to travel in and around Newquay and those arriving here by other transport are advised to consider hiring a car. It is possible to rent cars per day or per week for a reasonable price, although rates do increase during the summer months. Around the town are plenty of car parks, often close to the main beaches, shops and attractions, such as Newquay Zoo and Waterworld.

A 'park and ride' service allows you to park outside of the centre and travel into central Newquay, with the Tregunnel and Mount Wise car parks being especially convenient. Close to Newquay, Truro, Falmouth and Wadebridge are all within easy driving distance, as is St. Austell, where the Eden Project is a must-see attraction. The A392 joins the A30 and heads north to Exeter, and south to both Penzance and Land's End.

Newquay Travel and Transport: Travel by Bus and Coach - Newquay, Cornwall, England, UK
Various buses are available around Newquay and local town buses are run by First Devon and Cornwall, part of the First Group transport company. Buses are a convenient way to travel around the town and further 'Summercourt Travel' buses run to Newquay International Airport, with a frequent Airlink Bus 910 service. Newquay's 903 buses travel to and from Truro every hour and provide a particularly cheap way to reach this beautiful cathedral city. Both Travel Line Southwest and National Express coaches travel further afield, to towns and cities around England, such as Bristol, London, Manchester and Plymouth.

A particularly historical railway, Newquay Train Station dates back to the mid-19th century, when it was used to connect the mines and the harbour area. Today, regular high-speed passenger trains are most frequent during the summer months, with almost ten a day, operated by both Virgin Trains and also First Great Western. Train transport is a popular way to travel into the town, with many services arriving from London, the Midlands and even some areas of Scotland. Newquay Train Station is easy to find and stands along Station Road, close to Cliff Road, Narrowcliff, and just a short walk from the Town and the Great Western beaches.

Also on offer here is the popular 'Surf Rider Train', which is an open-top road train linking many points of interest, including the very town centre, Tolcarne Beach, Newquay Zoo and Trenance Gardens, being a convenient alternative to public bus transport. The Surf Rider Train is in operation between April and October.
